'The Royal Bedroom' is an elegant lake-view bedroom suite with a queen bed (featuring a comfortable memory foam mattress) plus a leather sofa for relaxation. Your luxurious private bathroom features an oversized copper tub with a rainfall showerhead.
This royal package gives you access to 'The Great Hall' in Highlands Castle (a grand room in the center or heart of the castle) with 25' high cathedral ceilings plus 21-windows overlooking Lake George and the Adirondack Mountains! (Note: The Great Hall is curtained off from the kitchen and family/TV room where the owners reside).
You will also have access to our outdoor upper terrace with the most spectacular view in the world! Miles of breathtaking, panoramic vistas of Lake George are yours to enjoy! Policies
Renter is responsible for your guest(s) to adhere to all 'POLICIES' of Highlands Castle.
NO SMOKING, VAPING, and CANDLES are allowed inside or outside the property and Renter agrees that their credit card will be charged a $500 penalty if this policy is not adhered to.
Highlands Castle does not allow a bachelor party or any rowdy, loud, disruptive, or unruly gathering.
Highlands Castle is not suitable for amplified music or a DJ.
Renter agrees to respect a quiet time from 9pm to 9am in consideration to neighbors or other guests.
NO EXTRA PERSON can be on property during your rental period that is not confirmed on your reservation and Renter agrees your credit card will be charged a $500/person penalty for any extra person not confirmed on their reservation.
MAXIMUM CAPACITY POLICY: Renter agrees not to exceed the maximum capacity that is allowed for any castle or suite. Renter agrees your credit card will be charged a $500/person penalty for any person exceeding the maximum capacity that is allowed for any castle or suite.
Renter agrees to leave the rental space, property, and grounds in a clean and orderly condition.
Renter agrees to pay for any damage caused by Renter (or guests of Renter) that occurs during your stay and Renter agrees that your credit card will be charged in order to repair/restore the Highlands Castle property.
AC|HEAT POLICY: To conserve energy, renter agrees NOT to run AC or Heat with any window or door left in the open position. Renter agrees to pay $250 if this policy is not adhered to. Renter agrees to pay $750 if AC 'freezes up' because a window or door was left in the open position with AC running. Recommended AC thermostat setting is 74-degrees Fahrenheit (or higher).
SAFETY RESTRICTIONS: Standing or sitting on any outside terrace wall or terrace railing or stone wall is PROHIBITED on the property of Highlands Castle. Renter and any guest of the renter agree to adhere to this rule for their own safety.
Children are welcome but must be well-supervised by a responsible adult at all times.
NO PETS POLICY: Renter agrees that your credit card will be charged a $500/night penalty if this policy is not adhered to. Note: 2-friendly dogs live in the main castle but are not allowed in the designated guest areas. If you are allergic, please consider renting the King's Suite, Castle Cottage, or Castle Gatehouse.
Winter Season Bookings: Renter is advised to utilize a 4-wheel drive vehicle with snow tires for safety.
Highlands Castle does not offer any outside goods or services - just the rental of the castle.
SECURITY DEPOSIT REQUIRED for a Family Rental or catered event. Security deposit refunded upon departure after a damage-free inspection.
Renter and any guests of Renter agree to conduct themselves in an orderly, respectful, and responsible manner in full compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
About the Owner
John A. Lavender II - owner of Highlands Castle. Highlands Castle was born from a promise I made to my young son... “Someday I’ll build a house where we both will live… a place we’ll call home. A place where you can bring your friends and create special memories… someday Jason I will build you a castle." Looking back to 1978, my 3-year old son would likely have never remembered these words. The promise had more to do with a desire to build a better life, than an actual castle. It would be another 5-years before the ideal property presented itself, a mountaintop in Bolton Landing, NY. While clearing the land for the foundation, a picture was being painted with a chain saw rather than a brush. Within a matter of weeks, the most spectacular view in the world was uncovered. The majesty of Lake George and the Adirondack Mountains seemed as grateful as I was to be unveiled. How was it, that I would be the one to settle here? I believe He heard the promise and lead me to this specific spot. It was not simply luck, this was something much greater. Once the foundation was completed, the wood framing construction was to the roof in a few months and the structure began to find its outward appearance. I finally graduated from the living quarters of a tent to a mattress on the floor, which was fine with me… I was quite happy to be sleeping in my own home. In 1986, I met Yvonne, the woman who 'turned a pile of rocks into a home'. We were married here in 1992, and my parents who were both Methodist pastors officiated our ceremony. (In 2008, my son Jason & Mary would be married at Highlands Castle with his grandparents also officiating their wedding). "Jason, I promised that I would build you a castle, I didn't say you wouldn't be helping me!"... So, when Jason was a teenager, he joined in the stonework. Naturally resourceful, he recruited his football teammates to lend some muscle over the summer months. Their daily mantra was "Let's rock!" and they took great pride in what they accomplished while working together again as a team. (Jason was not only an impressive stonemason, but he also went on to earn an Architectural Engineering Degree, and achieve anything he put his mind to). The stonework was a slow, tedious process and the labor of laying up more than 1,000 tons of local granite would take decades. Over the past 37 years, the property would evolve into what it is today... a series of three castles. In 2010, my wife Yvonne and I decided to make Highlands Castle available so others could experience what our family has been so fortunate to enjoy. Since then, families & friends from all over the world have gathered here to create their own special memories. We hope you'll visit us, too! John A. Lavender is truly a man of his word. He provided us with the perfect venue and space for our occasion. He made sure to take care of every detail. He called us at every opportunity before we even got there to make sure we were comfortable and made sure to remind us of the little things we might forget to bring with us. I felt he went above and beyond. He and his wife made my family feel like part of his own. His home had everything you could desire for whatever you could plan at his Castle. Everyone was blown away at his home and the views were breathtaking. It was everything we pictured and more. It was a place that will forever be in our hearts and minds. We could not have ask for a better experience. From the rooms, to all the amenities, it really made us feel like we were in a home away from home. John is what you expect and want from a host and we truly feel like we gained a friend in him. Anyone who wants nothing but the best for themself and their loved ones, this is the place you want to be. You will not regret your decision to book his Castle for an experience of a lifetime. Thank you John and to your wife as well for making our stay a memorable one. You have really spoiled us in what to expect at any future reservations we make elsewhere. No hotel, motel or Bed and Breakfast can hold a candle to what Highlands Castle can deliver. My wife and son will love me forever after their stay there. John and his wife were amazing hosts. The castle was even better than I had expected( and I had very high expectations). The terrace overlooking lake George was one of the most beautiful sights I have ever seen and not something that I will ever forget. Cannot wait to come visit lake George again but next time with more of my family. An AMAZING weekend.

The Highlands Castle was definitely a fairytale! Everything from our arrival to our leave. John and his wife went above and beyond with the decorations, the environment, and lastly the overall structure of the place. They both were so polite and we loved speaking with them about the best places to go for food and outdoor fun. John and his wife also helped me make this weekend one for the ages. Making my proposal go smoothly from the start. My fiancée (now) was in awe the entire weekend. She kept telling me how magical and beautiful the entire grounds were. Lastly, the view!! The view is absolutely breath taking!! Definitely worth every moment there! Thank you again for your hospitality, love, and kindness! We will be back soon!
