This unique Lake Placid, Adirondack style home was built in 1915 as a year-round home for a well-to-do family and shows it in the detail and quality of construction. Over the years it has been thoughtfully maintained and upgraded while retaining virtually all of the original charm of a house of that era. As with many homes built in the early 1900's, it has many little nooks and cranies where you can grab some quiet time with a good book.
It was purpose-built to be a large comfortable Lake Placid vacation rental home for a large family and still is. Details such as beautiful wood railings, built-in bookcases, a beamed ceiling in dining and living rooms and even skeleton key locks that work on many doors are all part of the experience. At the same time, upgrades, such as a new large master bath, enclosed wrap-around rear porch with bay window, and granite kitchen counters have expanded the living area and comfort of this home. Your favorite quiet breakfast spot will be in a corner of that porch surrounded by windows. The deck with Adirondack style railing and the large (accommodates 6) spa you step into right off the deck is another favorite spot of our guests.
4 TV's, outdoor dining table & chairs on deck, ceiling fans in all bedrooms, master suite with large private bath equipped with heat lamp and dual sinks, electric heat with individual room controls, charming pantry off kitchen with lots of storage space, enclosed porch with cozy bay window seating and breakfast/game table. 2 queen beds on second floor, 1 king bed on third floor, two twin beds third bath, 1 day bed with pull out 2nd bed, 1 convertible sofa in first floor bedroom, 1 futon in 2nd floor bedroom. Full bath on the third floor, two full baths second floor, one full bath first floor.
Things to Do in Lake Placid:
The location (one short block from the center of town - short walk to everything) is ideal for large groups and families in particular. At least a dozen restaurants, many shops, movie theater, Olympic skating arena, Mirror Lake and more are literally within a five-minute walk. The kids can have as much freedom as you wish. The beautiful Lake Placid Resort golf course (45 holes with an outstanding links layout) is a three-minute drive and great tee times are always available.
Likewise, the Whiteface ski area, Olympic ski jumping, bobsledding, and cross country venues are all within 10-15 minutes. A fully equipped kitchen, woodstove in the living room (wood supplied by us), five televisions, two VCR's, DVD, and wireless internet access make this a house ready to enjoy. Parking for 5 - 6 cars in our driveway.
We have a caretaker in town who maintains the house and hot tub. He is also available to resolve any problems that may arise with the house. Keywords: House

Shirley and I are married 40 years and have 5 children. We own and operate a small family business together. We bought the house so we could all enjoy it year round (great golf in the Adirondacks is a well kept secret). As we have started to rent it, we have found a great deal of enjoyment in sharing it with the many wonderful people who have visited and loved staying at the house.
Owner purchased this House in 2000
Why Owner chose Hillcrest
Before purchasing this house we enjoyed winter skiing and summer hiking & fishing in the Adirondacks with our family for many years. Finding great golf courses with easy access was a real bonus. We love the idea that we have a place we can enjoy year-round. When we visited the area over the years we were always drawn to the village at night for dinner and relaxation. So a location in the village was important to us.
What makes this House unique
Built-in 1915, the house is a large and comfortable family residence. It is ideally located because it is in the heart of the village. So whether we feel like a cozy weekend or a sporting day with nightlife, we are in the ideal location to quickly get around.
Easy check in process. Would definitely stay again

Overall: Great Location with lots of space in the house, easy check-in and responseful property manager. Neighbor across the street not happy about the place being used as a rental.
Pros: Amazing Location that's walkable to town & Mirror Lake, lots of space and bedrooms in the house (house is older with lots of nooks and crannies), large hot tub, parking for at least 4 cars, easy check-in
Cons: Neighbor across the street is obviously not happy the house is being used as a rental. She came over as soon as we checked in to ask if we're using AirBNB, and supposedly filed a noise complaint with the Lake Placid police the first night. For reference, we hiked Mount Marcy 5:30AM the next morning and went to bed early so we're not sure where the was coming from (perhaps it's just a disgruntled neighbor).

Needing a place to handle 12 guys for a weekend of hockey was a challenge. This property managed that perfectly. Hope to be return customers next year.
If there is any negative it would be the lack of large screen TV with modern inputs. But we were able to watch our hockey movies on another smaller set so it all worked out in the end.
Hot tub is great feature after 2 games of hockey each day.
Within walking distance to everything in LP. Starbucks is just down the hill and puts you almost dead center on Main street.

Large, close to town attractions (walkable), old house quirks but good nooks for reading, etc.

We had a large group for a family getaway. Location was perfect. The house had everything we needed.

Great place. Some new mattresses would be advised. Large flat team tv would make the property more contemporary
