Wonderful family vacation location

Our family very much enjoyed our vacation here. The house came filled with all your necessary items, except food, which we shopped locally to stock the fridge. They even had kid friendly food bowls, children books, and lots of toys! We all enjoyed sledding and snowshoeing which was all provided for renters to use. Snowmobile trails are close by and my husband took advantage of the fresh snow! Sheila was so accommodating and made sure we had everything we needed. Wonderful family vacation in the beautiful Adirondacks!

Another relaxing vacation at Camp Hatteras

This was our 3rd stay at the Camp. Very private. We really love the quaint, comfortable, relaxing atmosphere of the chalet. You feel right at home from the minute you walk in the door with the Adirondack music playing in the background. Although there was only two of us, there’s plenty of room and accommodations for much larger groups. There are many wonderful features to the Camp, but our favorite is the awesome fire pit. There’s also a screened in porch for use in the warmer weather and a wraparound upper deck to view the property when having your morning coffee. The fire pit is the largest and nicest one that we’ve seen with ample comfortable seating and plenty of firewood. There’s also a large new propane grill on site. The many trails on the property and wildlife make the Camp an adventure in itself.

The location of the Camp is ideal for hiking around the grounds, at Paul Smith’s VIC, nearby mountains, or other trails nearby. The areas numerous ponds are ideal for a paddle, whether it’s in a canoe or kayak. Sheila, the owner, is a lifelong resident and is more than happy to share her knowledge of the area and give suggestions for a mountain climb, hike or a paddle. It’s close proximity to Saranac Lake and Lake Placid is also a plus.

We always enjoy our stay at the Camp and look forward to returning soon.

Camp Hatteras was perfect for our stay!

Camp Hatteras is a gorgeous camp in Paul Smith's New York! We arrived with everything we thought we would need for our 4 day get away, we brought too much! The camp had everything except our food and clothes! The privateness was exactly what we were looking for and the wood stove topped it off. We enjoyed exploring, sledding, a bon fire outside, hiking and skiing! We would recommend this camp to everyone looking to experience the Adirondacks and nature at it's finest? Thank you very much Sheila we felt welcomed and at home!!!!

Beautiful home hidden in the ADK woods

Sheila and her family were incredibly accommodating and helpful! It is clear that she has a passion for connecting people with the beauty of the Adirondacks and had a lot of insight to offer about skiing/hiking. She also was kind enough to provide our group with a large bottle of maple syrup tapped on her family's property! The only let down was the firm line around only 8 guests being allowed. The home is very big and we were disappointed to hear that only 8 could join so just know that going in. All in all a truly great weekend!

Perfect Family Getaway

We were delighted to find such a wonderful place that felt like we were hours from civilization, yet 25 minutes from so much! Sheila was great to work with when securing the rental, and once we arrived the Eckerts were the best hosts. Bob was available for anything we needed and a delight to talk to.

The screened porch housed many dinners & the fire pit was great in the evenings. The house was well maintained and clean. The house was perfect for our family of four, and even spacious enough to have a few friends join us for a few days. We ate and shopped in Lake Placid, as well as spent a day at Ausable Chasm. Can't wait to go back.

Another Amazing Vacation at Camp Hatteras

We enjoyed another amazing week at Camp Hatteras. We have rented many rental homes over the years, but have never returned to a home we had rented before as we enjoy seeing and exploring new places. Camp Hatteras broke this tradition and we are so happy we returned for another winter adventure (we were here the same week in 2012). Sheila and Bob continue to be wonderful hosts and always have terrific suggestions on what to see and do. This year we didn’t have as much snow, but their suggestions for walks and a museum (The Wild Museum) were perfect for our family and children (ages: 17, 13, 8). The house is always spotless, warm, plenty of wood available if you want to heat by wood, and the kitchen is well-stocked. Trips to The VIC, Mt. Titus for skiing, Saranac Lake, the trails on the property, and the sledding hill on the property made for plenty of outdoor adventure and memories. The only drawback for us is that it is a 9 hour drive away or we would likely rent it more often. We can’t say enough positives about Camp Hatteras and give it our highest recommendation for the house, area, owners, and sites to experience in the Adirondacks!

Lovely Time at Camp Hatteras

Our family of four from Connecticut thoroughly enjoyed our week-long stay at Camp Hatteras. It had all the comforts of home. It was neat, clean and well-stocked with everything we needed for our home-cooked meals and grilling. We ate out on the screened porch almost every night. The convenient location was perfect for our paddling adventures, trips to the Adirondack Museum, Whiteface Mountain, The Wild, and nearby hiking. It was a delight to relax either on the deck, curled up in the loft reading a good book, or while enjoying an evening campfire. Sheila was most accommodating, suggesting paddles and a hike, which suited us well. Glad we chose Camp Hatteras—highly recommended.

Camp Hatteras was perfect for our stay!

This comfortable, cozy cabin-style home was perfect for our family (7 total)! It is comfortable and has all the conveniences to make your own meals, etc. Very quiet wooded acreage with lots of privacy. Downstairs bedroom and bath are great for folks who need ground level accommodations.

Would we stay again? In a heartbeat!

Snowy weekend at Camp Hatteras

We arrived late Friday to a very welcoming Camp Hatteras. The entire home was well heated, spotless, and charming music playing on the stereo.

The home is perfect for a family getaway, with all the perks of a modern home, but the seclusion and nature filled atmosphere of tent camping. The rent is very reasonable, and easily the best investment I have ever made for a vacation.

The homeowners were very welcoming to us, as well as kind enough to show us their very impressive syrup production just a short drive down the road.

I plan on going back to Camp Hatteras in the near future, there is still a lot I want to explore in the area.
