Good, but a few real problems
There are some excellent aspects. It was very clean and the beds are comfortable. Reservation and check-in was virtual and worked well. Smores fixins and a bottle of wine were nice welcomes. The home is decorated nicely, especially if you like an Etsy aesthetic. The hot tub was good. The wifi was strong
But the problems are real. There is not a single closet in the entire home - really, not in any bedroom, the kitchen, any bathroom, or foyer. Nowhere. Broom/mop just lie against a wall. There is a coat tree by the front door that gets overwhelmed, so coats have nowhere to go. In the kitchen there is no pantry or a a single wall cabinet. Groceries simply get stored on the kitchen counters - there is nowhere else for them. All the cups, plates and glasses are in floor cabinets, meaning constant bending and searching. Bedrooms do not have chairs and some of the beds are really high (there are step stools). No place to sit or put on shoes. And no place to put all the decorative bed pillow; you just throw them on the floor when sleeping. And the heat is single zone and single controller, so someone was always unhappy.
The main floor is all open, which can work well, but becomes difficult if someone is looking for privacy. We used all the bedrooms, so if you need a quiet space for work or zoom calls there is nowhere good to retreat to.
The separate game house is fun, but not as functional as you'd expect from the photos. All the arcade games and pool table are mini-size, which is OK, but not what we were expecting. Some of the games just don't work well and are mainly for show.
There is not much to do in the area during the winter when we were there. Also, if you are looking for a respite from national politics look elsewhere, as several neighbors are flying flags that include truly offensive language against one party. On the plus side, the small lake (the house is not on Lake George) and dock area look great for summer activities.
I could see giving the home a 4 instead of 3, but one thing was particularly off-putting. Evidently there is local legislation trying to limit VRBOs and similar rentals. The owner is involved in the fight, which is totally understandable. But the owner has placed political lawn signs on the issue around the property, which makes renters feel like they are unwanted interlopers.
Also, the cost is on the high side for this property. So, 3 stars (maybe 4 in the summer).
