This was our third year enjoying this beautiful cottage on Trout Lake! The hosts for this property are so kind and accommodating and we love the home, boat (new motor!), kayaks (5!) And paddle board for playing on the lake. The home is well appointed and quite comfortable and everyone had a great time together.
There are some spots on the deck and dock that need repair from wear and tear (lights missing, an exposed nail or two, outlet on deck off sleeping porch does not work), but otherwise it is well cared for and we love it. Hope to return next year - it's becoming a tradition for our family :-)

We had a great time at Sunset cottage. We made wonderful summer memories to last a lifetime. The lake is beautiful and the locals are very nice and welcoming.

House was very nice, location is fabulous, lots to do for our kids at the property. Very relaxing getaway. Note that the driveway is very steep and gets soft with rain - would not pull down the driveway without 4 wheel drive. There are multiple parking spots just above the driveway that are a short walk away. Shower is very small, which was fine for us. House itself is beautiful and no close neighbors. We would love to come back!

We enjoyed this property very much and the owners were very kind. However, there are some things that were quite outdated and could use some attention. The lights on the boat don’t work and only a couple of lights on the deck work. Also, only one jet in the hot tub was working. Overall though, we loved the location! The lake is beautiful and all the kayaks and paddle board were super fun. It was a fantastic place for our family to relax and enjoy each other.

We had an absolutely amazing week at Sunset Cottage! The house is stunning with great amenities. We used the pontoon boat at least twice a day, kayaks, hot tub, everything! The kids loved sleeping in the sleeping porch too. Only drawback was that the black flies were so bad once you got to top of driveway that our dog wouldn’t walk very far and no one seemed interested in a hike. Wondering if it’s just the time of year. But again, didn’t ruin anything and we had a great time!

We had an amazing time at Sunset Cottage. Being parents of teens and young adults, we make it a priority to get away at least every fall together for time to connect away from all the busyness. We usually like to try a new place every year, although we enjoyed the cottage and location so much we would stay again! We kayaked, hiked, spent time in the hot tub, enjoyed sitting on the deck (especially at sunset). We had a fire outside and used the fireplace inside a few times as the temps were getting cooler. The propane heater worked well to heat the room up in the morning. Foliage was at its peak and we were so thankful to be able to get out and enjoy it. We hiked to the Crescent Lake overlook and along the waterfall spots off of Tooley Pond Road. Even on a rainy day it was wonderful to sit and read by the fire, overlooking the lake through all of the windows. Donna and John have thought of everything and are wonderful hosts! Donna was easy to communicate with and would respond promptly. Thank you, Donna and John, for creating such a wonderful respite in an idyllic location!

Don't drive all the way down the driveway unless you have 4x4 or awd. Walk down and enjoy your stay at this beautiful sunset getaway.

This was our 9th stay on Trout Lake, 6th time at Sunset Cottage, 3 times at it's sister cottage, Loon Song. Both are incredible, and Donna & John are gracious hosts and wonderful people.
At Sunset Cottage the atmosphere is relaxing, and you just can't beat the views of the lake, especially at sundown. It's not called Sunset Cottage for nothing.
The cottage is total Adirondack charm. I've read some other reviews about the cottage not being clean and such. Let me say that we've never had an issue with this. Ever. If one wants a 5 star getaway, then book a 5 star hotel. This is 5 Star Adirondack style! Huge hot tub, new kyacks, bountiful wood for campfires and indoor fireplace. Large, comfortable leather sofa's & chairs. The kitchen is well stocked with everything you need. And don't fear the outdoor sleeping porch! It may get chilly at night, but the sound of the waves gently crashing on shore is so soothing.
Also there are 2 stores well within driving distance if provisions are needed. There's a small corner store a few miles away in Edwards, and a good size Price Chopper in Gouveneur, NY, about a 12 min ride. We usually purchase our perishables there so we don't have to pack.
Of course I highly recommend Sunset Cottage, after 9 years on Trout lake I wouldn't go anywhere else.
