New meets 20th century with gorgeous travertine, limestone and classic Subway ceramic tile baths, original heart pine floors, an expansive Great Room with Cathedral ceiling accented by a vast hand-built lake stone fireplace. Lit by a c.1949 French country chandelier the Great room is outfitted with period proper treasures: rattan sectional seating circa 1950, sea Captain's trunk, matching Aladdin lamps, nautical Rock Maple bedroom suite, a Heywood Wakefield dining ensemble which seats 10, and Mid-Century artwork throughout.
Our gourmet kitchen features granite countertops and breakfast bar complete with convection oven, Cuissinart processor, KitchenAid mixer, coffee bean grinder, French press & traditional coffeemaker. Vintage surprises such as an original Hamilton Beach blender in avocado green of course, Sunbeam Electric Can Opener, hand press juicer, glassware and ceramics a great grandmother would cherish!
Our spacious deck overlooking Great Sodus Bay dotted with islands and Lake Ontario just over your shoulder is the perfect gathering spot for cocktails, barbecue, star gazing.. What's not to love? Swim and boat from our dock for fishing or dining or drive to our favorite spots... Gastronomic delights such as homemade fruit pies and fresh produce from local farmer's markets; fine dining at Bay Street restaurant, fresh housemade Sushi at Back Alley, homemade pasta at the new 911, or burgers & barbecue with live music on the Bay at Captain Jacks.

Our family includes Cooper and Gus, our standard poodles who didn't make it into the photo but are very much part of the family. Aurora owns a day spa, Fred is the CEO for a behavioral health company, and son Cody lives in Canton, Baltimore.
Living on the Chesapeake Bay for the past 26 years we thrive on the unique beauty of America's waterways and waterfront living.
Considering retirement we knew wanted a place that feels like home. Not only is it a stunning area but the within a days drive you can visit any of the Finger Lakes, the Thousand Islands, Niagara Falls, Vermont & Montreal, Toronto !

We have been coming to Sodus Bay for over 20 years. Reuniting with family and bringing in-laws and friends, we get to share our love for the perfect place to go back in time. The towns, the beach, the neighbors and even the weather seem to be the way I remember it from childhood. That is, a slower pace where the person behind the cash register stops to chat; real peace and quiet with thousands of stars; no need to lock the doors; warm sunny days with low humidity; wildflowers bursting with color by the side of the road...Of course, there's endless water from the Bay to Lake Ontario to the Finger Lakes and the Erie Canal.
What makes this House unique
Having a spectacular view of Sodus Bay from sunrise to moonrise is unbelievably joyful. You know you're in the right place and it's always the right time. Of course, our company often likes to fish off our dock which means dinner is super fresh. Just a short way around the Bay we find the best homemade fruit pies we've ever eaten. My cousins can be found at the Sodus Golf Club-gorgeous rolling green acres, while my son joins the poker games there twice a week. The younger set is happy at the miniature golf course and we're all up for one of the local ice cream spots. Superlatives abound!

Great views and location
This adorable house is a great place to spend time with family with a large, open, multi-level family room and kitchen off to the side. The furnishings are cute with eclectic antiques throughout.The panoramic view of Sodus Bay out the back windows is gorgeous. The house is located 1 hour from Syracuse and Rochester and 45 minutes from the north end of the Finger Lakes. There is plenty of cookware in the kitchen. You could easily cook Thanksgiving dinner here without needing to bring anything. The fireplace is beautiful and a nice place to sit in the evening. There are plenty of places nearby that sell firewood for better prices than the supermarket.
We visited the house in late November. Outside temperatures were 30-40. The heater struggled to keep the house warm, as it was chilly inside at 64 even with the thermostat raised. The hardwood floors felt cooler. A comfy sweatshirt and slippers is recommended.

Nice location, quiet area, great layout in the house. Note if you have mobility limited folks - although the house is one floor, there are multiple single-step ups and down dividing areas.

Beautiful waterfront view
This is a beautifully landscaped property with an amazing view of Sodus Bay. The deck was large enough for the whole family to enjoy. There is a small yard for games and for the dog. Our dog enjoyed swimming every day and was exhausted by the end of the week. Towels and bed linens are not provided so be sure to bring your own. Also, there is no washer and dryer.

Great Family Vacation on Sodus Bay
Overall the property was very nice. The views from the deck and great room were amazing. The location on Sodus Bay was perfect for utilizing our boat each day. We loved the AC units in each room which allowed us to sleep comfortably. The great room was very spacious and allowed the family to play games and be together in the evenings.
A few things to note:
The stairs down to the dock were very overgrown with vegetation. This made it difficult to carry things down to the dock safely. The stairs could also use some repair as they did not seem to be as sturdy as they could be.
The dock was sturdy enough although most cleats were not fastened correctly to the dock so lines from our boat needed to be tied to the bracing underneath the dock. There were also other sections of the dock sitting on shore that possibly should have been in the water.
There was no storage in the kitchen for food.
The shower in the main bathroom was dirty at the base. This could use some work
We paid for linens. The sheets and pillow cases in the master bedroom were very old and stained.
Overall we had a great week with the family. We would possibly rent this cottage again in the future.

Great week on the bay!
This sweet cottage is on a quiet part of Sodus Bay. We loved being able to walk to the dock and take a boat or jet ski ride with ease. Our entire party loved the open concept living space. We spent nearly every morning and evening on the deck. It's large enough that we also played corn hole several times! We brought our small Solo stove and got some great campfires in. The kitchen was stocked with pretty much everything we needed (we have a very fussy cook in the family and he's always "missing something"). We also loved having the independent AC in each space - it helped us keep the temps where we like it! We didn't watch much TV because we were out on the water, but it appeared we would have had all we needed. As an avid gardener, I loved all of the landscaping!
A few things to note:
* there are close to 50 stairs to the dock. They were manageable for everyone in our party, but they got very slippery when wet and some of them were loose. Small children and anyone with mobility issues may have trouble. During our stay, some of the trees were overgrown over the stairs and could be cut back. Getting items like coolers to a boat could be difficult, so take care.
*the dock accommodated our boat and jet ski. Some of the cleats were broken or missing, so we had to get creative when securing things.
*the water right in front of the cottage has some seaweed/growth at the shoreline, so you probably won't enter the water there. There was no ladder for the dock, so you either wade through the weeds or jump from the end (but you have to figure out how to get back out of the water).
*the entire area lost power one night. I texted the owner asking for some suggestions on candles/alternative lighting and didn't get a response until the next morning. We were able to manage, but a timely response for that issue would have been appreciated.
*there is no washer/dryer on the property. The owner let me know that there was a laundromat in town. Turns out, it was shut down. We had to do some searching to find one and it was 10-15 minutes away. With lots of swimming/boating and some rain, we really needed on-site laundry.
*the listing states that the house sleeps 8 and it does. However, there is an "extra guest fee" for parties over 6. This is not explicitly stated anywhere and we learned of it after we saw the charge.
Overall, we loved our stay! We need more space next year or we would return for sure. Thank you for sharing your cottage with us.

We had an amazing visit. Hikes at Chimney Bluffs, and very reasonable boat rentals brought us to the sandbar. The house had every detail we needed and the layout was perfect for our group!

First vacation with our dog and parrot
Loved this lakeside retreat. House lovingly updated. A bit of a drive to some attractions but really enjoyed the serene Beauty of being on the lake. It was so nice to have our pets with us and they enjoyed being out on the large deck with us.

Beautiful View, lovely property
Two things that drew me to this property were the bright, open look of the house and the amazing view, and I was not disappointed by either of those things. The house was as advertised, and had just about everything in the way of incidentals that you would need. Our hosts were very quick to answer any questions we had and very easy to deal with. I would definitely visit this property again!

Relaxing Getaway
Wow!!! Absolutely stunning!! The Views, the cottage with its charming furnishings, the kitchen was great to work in! The yard and gardens are just beautiful but the deck has to be the best! Aurora and Fred truly have a talent they have put to use in setting this place up. We just loved staying here - thank you so much for sharing your fantastic property. We can't wait to return.
