The great room has a queen hide-a-bed couch, Persian carpets, antique furniture and a gorgeous new kitchen with stainless appliances and granite countertops.

The bedroom has a queen bed, antique dresser, oriental carpet, closet. Great room and bedroom have beautiful stained white oak hardwood floors. The large bathroom has a glass shower, double sinks, granite countertop, porcelain marble floors.

The huge private deck has a view of the garden. Maple Grove is the ideal location for exploring both the Canadian and U.S. sides of the famous Thousand Islands Region. Guests may enjoy swimming, sailing, boating, kayaking, bicycling, snorkeling, scuba diving, strolling in our beautiful gardens, walking to nearby Tibbitts Point Light House, or sitting on the front porch watching the ocean-going ships as they pass to and from the Great Lakes.

No-cost 48-hour boat tie-up may be available at the village dock and the dock at the State Department of Environmental Conservation Research Station. There is a public boat launch ramp in the village. The vehicle ferry to Kingston, Ontario leaves from Cape Vincent. Boat tours of the islands and castles are available from nearby Clayton, Alexandria Bay, and Gananoque, Ontario. Cape Vincent is home to the annual French Festival.

Maple Grove is the home of the annual Thousand Islands International Piano Competition for Young People. Maple Grove is located on the mainland. It is not on an island. You will not need a boat as you would for almost all of the islands. You will not have to deal with the weather and logistics problems of being on an island. (Please see the large home on the property also available for rent).

Beautiful place to stay!

Our stay at the Carriage House was wonderful. We were fortunate enough to be there during the 1000 Islands Piano Competition (held on the grounds). I thoroughly enjoyed getting to listen to some extraordinary talent while my husband fished. The people at Cape Vincent were so friendly. Great getaway place!

beautiful apartment in carriage house with stunning view of St. Lawrence River

What a lovely home, and I couldn't get enough of the view of the river from the living and bedroom windows! The deck off the back overlooking the spacious yard would have been perfect for morning coffee, if the temperature had been a bit cooler. I imagine it would be spectacular in the fall.

Bruce and Lynn (the owners) and Liz and Mike (the "caretakers", I suppose) were so helpful and really went the extra mile to make me feel like this was a home away from home. I had a very enjoyable lunch with Bruce and Lynn, and dinner with Liz and Mike - thank you! The apartment was spotless and well-equipped. It's very quiet with only an occasional car passing by.

It's only a few minutes from the small town of Cape Vincent, and 15 minutes or so from Clayton's Antique Boat Museum (the main reason for my trip, with the annual Antique and Wooden Boat Show held the first weekend in August). Alexandria Bay is a bit beyond that with the various Thousand Islands boat tours (I did Uncle Sams Two Nations Tour that stopped at the fascinating Boldt Castle). The little ferry to Wolfe Island in Canada is minutes away and crossing was a breeze. Then it's ten more minutes to another ferry to Kingston, Ontario.

I had a great time and wouldn't hesitate to return to see things I missed, and take it a little slower to relax and enjoy the Carriage House at a more leisurely pace.

Charming with conditions

This was a delightful apartment in a lovely area. The rooms were beautifully decorated and immaculate. We rented at the last minute and the owners were prompt with responses even though there were some communication problems which were entirely our fault. My only complaint is the rental agreement we were required to sign. It was full of what we thought were petty conditions such as not placing glasses on furniture without coasters, no drinking red wine, no wet towels on the furniture or floors, closing windows if it rains, locking the door when you leave, strict stipulations on where to park, and not placing anything heavier than 20 pounds on parts of the counter. We were almost afraid to sit down. I understand that the home has been lovingly decorated and furnished and the owners want to keep it in top condition. However, we felt we were treated like second graders with a list of rules from the teacher.
