If you are looking for a true 'Adirondack Camp' experience, look no further! First, about the Cabin. Sitting on the shore of Forest Lake (a private association lake with no motorboats allowed), the cabin was built in the 1940s as a rental for one of the many Dude Ranches that were active around the Lake George/Lake Luzerne area.
A Charming cabin that has been completely restored to provide all the modern amenities that one would expect today. There are three bedrooms upstairs with a full bath, downstairs you will find a spacious living room with original stone fireplace (gas logs installed) a dining room that seats 6, a large kitchen boasting a gas range/oven, dishwasher, refrigerator, microwave and a full selection of cookware, dinnerware, and utensils. There is a full bath (with shower) downstairs that also hosts a full-size washer/dryer for your convenience.
No air conditioning. Also, lakeside is a quiet place you can curl up with a good book. Walk out the backdoor onto a large covered porch overlooking the lake. Sit quietly and you will probably see the bald eagles that live on the lake, lots of ducks and geese, and occasionally the family of otters that make their home across the lake. Attached to the covered porch is an open deck to grab a few rays or fire up the grill. Step off the porch and it is steps to the lake. There is a dock for sunning and a nice sloped area for swimming. We have a canoe and a rowboat at the property for your use! You can spend your entire visit relaxing at the cabin but if you want to explore the area, there is plenty to do.
There are several river rafting outfitters just down the road as well as The Painted Pony Rodeo. Horseback outfitters, snowmobile outfitters and hiking trails are all nearby. The Longhorn Pub is just down the road for a hamburger or a drink, a locals place that is good and fun or try the Upriver Cafe in Lake Luzerne with a fantastic view of the Hudson. If you wish to explore a bit further and need some additional shopping or dining, just a few miles brings you to the Lake George area where putt-putt, amusement parks, restaurants, outlet malls and shops will keep you busy. For real nostalgia, take in a double feature at the Drive-in Movie!
Lake George offers more boating and fishing opportunities. During the winter try the Tubby Tubes (summers are fun too!) near the cabin or drive to Gore Mountain for a day of skiing. We are minutes to the Northway (I87) and it will quickly take you south to Saratoga Springs and Albany, north to the upper Adirondack region with Lake Placid and the Lakes (even Montreal is just a couple of hours away), and East to Vermont.

About Fred Asmussen
We are Pam and Fred Asmussen, we live in Texas and purchased the home last year. Two of our children live in the Northeast and we purchased the house to be able to spend more time with them. We have fallen in love with upstate New York and the Adirondack region is our little slice of heaven. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
Fred Asmussen purchased this Cabin in 2014
Why Fred Asmussen chose Lake Luzerne
When you close your eyes and try to imagine your idea of a lakefront camp in the Adirondack's this property is most likely what you will see. Our cabin was originally built in the 1940s as part of the Northwoods Dude Ranch, an 800-acre site with 2 lakes. A lot history in the area. A true hand-cut log home, nestled among the pines overlooking a beautiful lake. Original pine floors, exposed logs, and a hand-laid stone fireplace gives the house its charm. With a well-done addition to the house and lots of work, the house was remodeled to provide a modern kitchen and nice bathrooms. We have decorated the house to keep the charm of a log home but included many of our personal pieces, furniture and rugs to give the house a bit of elegance as well.
What makes this Cabin unique and special?
Standing on the porch watching the wildlife?
Testing the water with your toes in early summer to see if you are brave enough for a plunge?
Pushing the canoe into the lake to enjoy a different view of the beauty of the area, the quite and the solitude?
Family and friends gathering in the kitchen, all talking, laughing and cooking?
Backing up to the fireplace on a frosty morning with a cup of coffee?
Curling up in a chair on the deck with a good book?
this is our second time renting this lovely cabin and we couldn’t have had a better time. Can’t wait to book our next trip !

Fred’s cabin was lovey and peaceful. It being on the water, we were afforded with restful times and some unsuccessful fishing! The home is really nicely decorated and warm. Super clean. True cabin feel with no cobwebs, critters and the like. We will definitely stay here again. Fred was super helpful in getting us set up and there were no hitches. Very easy all the way. Thanks again.

Just a few steps onto s small private dock. Perfect house so close to Lake George and entry into Adirondacks. We would stay there again in a heartbeat. Fully stocked kitchen and bathrooms. A gem of a covered back porch. Very quiet and peaceful. Nicely decorated.

The property was truly spectacular and in a great place. My wife and I enjoyed out stay very much. Neighbors got a little noisy one night, but it ended relatively early. Other than that, we could not have had a better time. Very relaxing on the porch in the evening and in the morning looking out onto the lake. Property was well equipped and in a great location. It is clear the owners take pride in their cabin, very well kept up. Loved it!!!!

The log cabin was even more charming than the pictures indicated. Morning coffee on the dock was a favourite! Great location as everything was fairly close by. Fred was always responsive to our emails when we had any questions! We will definitely be staying at this warm and wonderful cabin again!

Great place, quite, peaceful, clean, comfortable. It could get hot in the afternoons. The fan in the living room was helpful.
We hope we can go back there again.

What a fantastic place and the owner made everything super easy! This cabin was an absolutely great combination of historic, classic, charming and warm, yet completely updated and clean, with all the latest touches. My sons and I had a fabulous time relaxing inside, on the porches and down at the dock. Excellent place to go swimming and take the canoe or rowboat out for fishing. It also was just a short drive from all that Lake George has to offer. If you're looking to relax in style at a stunning place yet be close to all kinds of activities this is the place for you!!!

We stayed here last week and had a wonderful time. My wife and I, along with our 3 teenage daughters all thought that it was perfect. The house is the perfect combination of rustic along with all of the modern amenities we are so accustomed to. Everyone's favorite spot was the porch. Amazing setting and very comfortable. We had a great week and look forward to going back again.
