Shabby Chic and Comfortable

The house is old but lovely. It was very well equipped with just about everything you will need. A canoe and kayak, with life vests, are available . The owner, Pat, has managed to conceive of everything you may need and has it covered. He is friendly and accommodating, helping to create a warm relaxing atmosphere. The area was magnificent with the beach only a few hundred steps away. WE saw deer, rabbits and squirrels in our backyard every day. Downtown Greenport is a few minutes away with good restaurants and shops. We will be back.

Wonderful place to stay, walk to Greenport

Third time we've used the gatehouse - easily accommodates 4 - 6 people for 7 days. 2 bedrooms upstairs with a futon downstairs. We had 2 parents and 3 young adults (kids). We all used the outdoor shower - why would anyone not want to?!?! Kitchen was adequate, the house was super clean, beds comfortable. You can walk across the lawn to the beach, walk or bike into Greenport. Great location - we brought a kayak, launched it from the beach, used it to paddle around the Cove and across the channel to Shelter Island. Pat is always so accommodating. Will definitely stay here again.

Charming and Very Relaxing

I almost hate to write a glowing review for fear that this place will fill up next year. The house is simple, super clean, and very comfortable. Pat is a great host: the right amount of checking -n balanced with leaving his guest to enjoy the beauty of the place. The bay is the perfect temperature for swimming and the grass leading up to it makes for a perfect view. Short walk into town and the perfect location for great bike rides.

PEACEFUL, IDYLLIC RETREAT.

We have just returned to England from our second stay at Cherry Lane Farm,Greenport. It is a terrific magical location against the sea with a backdrop of woods overlooking Shelter Island. It is a peaceful idyllic retreat to be able to really wind down amongst nature. Lots of birds and deer are seen on the estate, ideal location for birdwatchers. We had the Gatehouse again but there are other properties to suit various individuals or families. It is ideal for pet dogs (we took our daughters) and children of all ages to play safely on the beach and the grassed areas. The beach is private so only a handful of properties that front it use it for boats, fishing, sunbathing and playing. The properties are tastefully decorated to suit the individual buildings. The main large house is exquisitely decorated with beautiful furniture and antiques (ideal for large adult parties or 3/4 families). It also has an orangery overlooking the sea with plenty of space and a sauna. All the properties are clean and well maintained.
There are barbeques to each property and outdoor tables/ seating. Also there is an outdoor shower to each property which is very useful.
The owner Pat Nelson is a cheerful, helpful character who trys to make sure your holiday goes smoothly and enjoyably.
The location can be reached easily by the Hampton Jitney (coach) from Manhatten (2 1/2 hrs) or train if you do not wish to rent a car. It is a 5 minute walk from the train/coach station.
The centre of town and port is a 10 minute walk and you can cross on the ferry to Shelter Island or the Hamptons .There are plenty of cafe's, bars, restaurants and take-aways to choose from in town.
I would recommend Cherry Lane Farm to my friends, relatives, families, couples and groups of people for a fantastic holiday.

Cute cottage on fantastic property

My husband and I wanted to bring our 15 month old daughter somewhere that she could be exposed to nature and free to roam. This place was perfect! Having the beach all to ourselves was just lovely! Pat was a great host. He seems to love having kids around and even helped us to set up a bird feeder near the window and yard so that my daughter could "feed the birds" and watch them. She loved the birds and the whole trip! We will definitely be back.

Wonderful week at Cherry Lane Farm

We just returned from a great week and a half at the Gate House. The house was perfect for us - easily accomodated two adults. one teenager and a small dog, with room to spare. The property is beautiful and tranquil, with it's own stretch of private beach and lots of open lawn space. The owner, Pat, is very nice and gave us terrific suggestions about places to visit in the area. We had a car, but for a shorter visit, one could easily do without one, as the village is about a ten minute walk away. We were sad to leave!

Not so much

Property is beautiful but house not so much. Very shabby, outdated and even though probably clean, didn't look it. No way could 4-6 people stay here comfortably. Only one bathroom, and bedrooms were both upstairs so not exactly convenient. Had to pre wash kitchen items since they looked filthy before I even used them. Definitely did not think it was worth the money we spent for the six days we stayed; the accomodations looked much nicer in the photos. The little interaction we had with the owner was not pleasant and he seemed very pre-occupied; not even a guest book or welcome cocktail upon arrival! Would not go back.

Magical Summer

This is a very special and wonderful property. We have had two incredibly summer vacations there and plan to return for a third. The setting is very unique and suited to families or those seeking solitude. The owner is attentive and very accommodating. Walking distance the charming village of Greenport and accessible to all of the lovely North Fork and Shelter Island, the place also offers a stunning private beach. You may never want to leave the relaxing, laid back atmosphere and beauty of the waterfront property.
