Search no further, you've found an excellent home for your Adirondack vacation! Camp Loony is great for family reunions and other group functions, up to 10 people. There are 5 bedrooms, 4 queen beds each has private full bath and one bedroom with a full size bed. You will not find this in any comparable rental, instead you will find rooms with multiple beds jammed into rooms, sharing one or two bathrooms.
There is sleeping space for 10. Your family will be very comfortable at Camp Loony, there are so many places in and around the house to relax. From the large dock to the sun room and large living room which are both just feet away from the lake. Camp Loony is 3200 square feet and sits on 1.25 acres with 475 feet of lake front. Camp Loony is very secluded from other Adirondack camp rentals around the lake so if you are looking for privacy, this is the place! The large professional kitchen is fully stocked and even has 2 stoves! You will also find all of the conveniences of your home kitchen with a large stainless fridge, dishwasher, microwave and seating so you can entertain friends and family while making your feasts. The open floor plan (kitchen, dining room, living room and sun room) also allows for entertaining and makes relaxing in any room a breeze. There is so much that can be done right outside the doors of Camp Loony! Fishing is excellent, you will catch many small mouth bass, northern pike, perch (good eatin') and a few elusive Large-mouth bass. You can walk or drive a few miles to the north branch of the Saranac River for trout fishing.
There are many thousands of miles of hiking and biking trails right outside the door and we are in a great location for day hikes to some of the ADK high peaks and even some not so high peaks. Crusher Mountain is at the end of Mensink Rd (less than a mile), it is a very short hike to the top and there is a great view. If you are a little more adventurous then you can hike Loon Lake Mountains and see the fire tower which is about a 6 mile round trip. This is a perfect place for snowmobiling and other winter activities. Camp Loony is just feet from New York State Corridor trail C8. Start from the house and sled through the beautiful wilderness past Rainbow Lake and Lake Clear, to Lake Placid and/or Saranac Lake in an hour. Malone is about an hour north and Tupper Lake about 40 minutes southwest. The corridor trail from Camp Loony connects you to a system of over 10,000 miles of marked and groomed trails. The Adirondacks are a famous destination for snowmobile enthusiasts. Go on an extended trip, travel through historic villages, head out for an afternoon with some friends. There are 10,500 miles of funded snowmobile trails in New York, and (depending on the snow cover), your registration allows you access to every mile. Many riders, who come to enjoy what New York State has to offer, take off in groups and explore the back country where there are well marked trails that take you to snow-covered valleys and scenic vistas. Ice fishing is also great on Loon Lake! Don't forget Winter Carnival in Saranac Lake and the Olympic Village in Lake Placid. The garage is large in case you want to park your cars and/or snowmobiles in there. Ski or Board a two time Olympic mountain just 25 miles from Camp Loony! Whiteface Mountain boasts over 283 acres of skiable terrain, 86 trails and 11 lifts. Experience the greatest vertical drop east of the Rockies at one of the Adirondack Mountain's legendary High Peaks. Whiteface is known for its beautiful panoramic mountain scenery, technical terrain, and award-winning family resort amenities; from beginner bunny trails to challenging expert terrain you will find there is skiing and snowboarding trails for all ages and abilities.
Whiteface also offers a complete Terrain Park with jumps, rails, jibs, and a US Air Bag for tricks with a soft landing. There are 2 canoes, a tandem kayak large enough for 2 adults and a small child and a row boat for exploring the beautiful and private lake (no public access.) We cannot allow outside motor boats, no exceptions. (you can bring your own personal watercraft like canoes and kayaks) We have patio furniture and ADK chairs in the yard for BBQ's and to just sit around with friends and family. Take a day trip to Saranac Lake, Lake Placid, Tupper Lake (the Wild Center) or even Montreal. There are some great restaurants in town, lots of cool shops and many tourist attractions. Maybe take a trip back in time and ride the rails on the ADK Railroad.
The Wild Center is a nature museum which is fun for the whole family and is located about 35 minutes away. Even closer is the Paul Smith's Visitors Interpretive Center which is a great place to see wildlife in nature and learn about the local ecology. We have a TV room with a DVD player and basic satellite TV reception. There are a couple board games and I'm told Camp Loony is great for Hide and Seek. I could write for days about all of the things you can do while staying at Camp Loony, but instead I will leave a little to your imagination. One thing that is for certain, you will enjoy your stay! We look forward to hearing from you...
