About Janice:
This is my home away from home. I will probably retire to this cottage -- hopefully sooner than later. I fell in love with Cayuga Lake when I was a freshman at Eisenhower College at the top of the lake. Now is the Northeast College of Health Sciences.New York Chiropractic College.
Why Janice chose the Town of Varick
Since I have spent some much time at the cottage ---- for the summers that my children were growing up the whole summer -- I hope that i have created a unique place for people to rent and also to feel at home. The kitchen is fully stocked; the porch was designed so you could practically live out there; the primary bedroom was redesigned so that you can lay in bed and see and hear the lake; the decorations are a combination of pictures by local artists as well as things that remind people to enjoy their vacation and their life.
What makes this Cottage unique:
Stunning views of the lake from the porch, seating area, kitchen, and primary bedroom. Steps to the lake. Can swim, float, canoe, kayak, or paddleboat. Can bring a boat and launch it nearby (room to park boat and trailer -- cannot be docked over night due to possible change in winds). The porch is great place to relax, eat, play cards and games, or just watch the boats go by. Multiple seating areas and dining areas inside and outside. A separate guest cottage is great for couples or grandparents traveling with family who want a little space sometimes.
We loved staying at this home. It was just about perfect for our needs ... it's dog-friendly, kid-friendly (two small but nearly-identical sized bedrooms for our girls worked out perfectly), and friend-friendly with the separate guest house across the street.
Janice was an absolute pleasure to work with. She replied quickly and accurately to any questions we had, and the nice touches like treats and toys for the kids, dog, and grown-ups were all greatly appreciated!
This is one of the better vacation rentals we've seen in terms of amenities ... plenty of dishes, plates, shampoo & conditioner, towels, boats, fishing supplies, and lots more. The layout worked well for our group, and the two-level sunroom is amazing.
Just a few (very) minor comments for awareness for future renters ...
- The photos show a swing set in the yard, but there is no swing set. This was a bit of a disappointment for our girls as this was a strong selling point for this home. But there is a nice playground a few minutes drive down the street.
- The guest house kitchenette is functional, but our friends had to stop by several times for things that could easily have been included like silverware.
- As other reviewers have mentioned, the parking & guest home are separated from the main home by a road. It's not particularly busy, but the cars drive FAST. Just be aware if you have small kids or dogs!
Overall, we loved our trip and would absolutely return to this wonderful home. Thanks Janice!

me and my family stayed here for a week in early june 2021. we had a great time, the extra cottage across street comes in real handy. most places dont have this ! a two level screened in porch is also great to have. my favorite was the huge space on the dock area along the water. Janice was super easy to work with, and she also left some gifts and dog treats - that was great!

The cabin was perfect- the views and location were everything we wanted. The screened in porch was our favorite spot on hot days. Janice was extremely responsive as was her property manager who put in the A/C units early for the unseasonably hot days at the end of May. Looking forward to staying again

We stayed for 2 nights but wish we could have stayed longer! This is a wonderful property - meticulously maintained and the host literally thought of everything to make our stay comfortable. Right on the water, with the guest cottage right across the street, so a lot of space for sleeping and spreading out! The view is gorgeous, with lots of windows and outdoor space to sit and relax. We will definitely be back!!

The view alone makes this property worth it, we could sit out by the water all day and night! The cottage had everything you could think of, including cute treats for yourself and dogs! The paddle boat was fun to take out and the rock beach was so fun to skip rocks! Janice was in communication with me the whole time prior to check in and was super friendly and easy to work with. We will absolutely be renting this cottage again!

This house was just what we were looking for in a weekend getaway. We were there on a cold November weekend, and the lake house was comfy and cozy. It was lovely waking up to the sunrise over the lake—the waterfront is right there. The house is well equipped with everything you would need. Janice is a fabulous host. The road is close, and we did hear the traffic, especially at night. But you probably wouldn't notice at all if you were out by the water. We would love to come back in the summer, to really take advantage of the outdoor space.

This cottage had everything we needed for a relaxing week away from home! The sunrises were gorgeous. We spent the days on the dock just relaxing with the family and enjoyed a beautiful fire each night. We can’t wait to go back next year.

Our week at Cayuga Lake was wonderful. Our group agreed that the two best things about this property were the outside, lake-front space (huge) and its proximity to all the state parks and wineries that we wanted to visit. Added bonuses were the lake “toys” available for use, the well-equipped kitchen, and the great communication with the property owner. We had three adults stay in the main cottage and two in the guesthouse, which seemed to be the right amount for the size of the house. We would definitely stay here again!

The house fit our needs perfectly! We stayed for 6 nights and I think my husband actually shed a tear the day we left. The screened in upper and lower decks were perfect for my mom (83 years young), as she had a bird's-eye view of everything from there. The dock was perfect for my husband's boat (18'), which we tied off every evening without incident. Our dog lived it even more than us... If that's possible. We are already thinking about next year's trip. Janice was an angel to work with. We felt like we were a part of her family. Highly recommend!
